Having counted all the pennies from the auction, raffle and the quiz entry fees we are delighted that the grand total of £3,084 is being donated to local Registered Charity Furniture Now! From their two sites in Eastbourne, charity shop in Hailsham and depot in Lewes, they collect and repair donated home and office furniture and provide training opportunities for local people who are struggling to find work, or wish to return to work.
The Reid Briggs cheque has enabled the charity to employ Haydn Booker who was working for the charity in a voluntary capacity, however the Reid Briggs donation has enabled them to employ Haydn under the government backed Apprenticeship scheme. In his time with Furniture Now Haydn has thrived, turning from an angry young man (in his own words) into a motivated employee who is looking to the future and enjoying proving wrong the people who wrote him off as lacking in skills.
Andrew Briggs, co-Director of Reid Briggs commented:It is great to see our efforts being channelled into something tangible and in Haydn we see a young man with lots of potential who through the governments Apprenticeship scheme, has the chance to show what he is capable of.
Reid Briggs presented Petrina Mayson, CEO of Furniture Now and Haydn Booker with their cheque and Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd also attended as he is committed to promoting Apprenticeships for local people.
We now look forward to focussing on our next charitable endeavour in September as part of our 50 years commemorations Team Reid Briggs are walking the Thames Towpath in aid of Sussex Charity Care for the Carers on 13th September 2014.
